How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Google –
A main resource that we took advantage of was Google. The power of Google proved to give a wide spread of availability which allowed us to attain research and knowledge of the chosen artist but also to comprehend their fans wants and needs through the connectivity of social media. Stages from planning to construction this was a major deal in order to create a product that was truly conventional of ‘grime’ and relating to our finds to overall make a decent product.
A subsidiary of Google is Google Drive; this was the first element of technology that played a huge role in the aid to secure findings of research and documents. We used Google Drive for the purpose of communication, sharing and saving documents that is behind the creation of our tasks and products, like: the ancillaries and the music video. Furthermore, the use of Google Drive was taken advantage of through all means of production due to the fact it’s available anywhere on any device which meant we could view production notes, schedule, shot list on shoot.
WIX
For the main purpose of gathering all the work carried out in the lead up to the final video and the presentation of this, which includes the research, planning, construction and the evaluations, WIX provided the best facilities to showcase our work in a sleek and modern design. Here we created individual sections and pages to keep everything neat and easy to be seen and read.
For the ancillary tasks a separate homepage was designed to fit the style of the genre ‘grime’ and to keep the continuity between all tasks.
YOUTUBE –
YouTube was the basis of gathering our ideas of grime video conventions; due to the vast popularity of the site it was easy to find popular videos that fit the style. Moreover, we used YouTube as a platform to host our created videos, for example the team meetings that decided thex concept and roles of each group member, audience interview but also the rough cuts and the final video in order to attain feedback from a survey targeted to the specific audience. YouTube is a great source of video sharing as we found it is available on most modern technologies, especially the media technology we used throughout the creation of this project.
MAC –IMOVIE – CAMERAS
Another means of technology we have been using is portable and physical, for example Macs, a top of the art computer that specialises in the production of music and video editing / creating. The Mac comes equipped with many programs that we have used from planning to evaluation, such as word, Internet connectivity, Photoshop and iMovie. IMovie is the baisis in the creation of our meeting and music video, this gave us methods and choices to edit the way we planned it; however the effects were very basic so we used Final Cut Pro in order to get opening and closing effects in the video but also the alteration of colours within.
Having two different types of cameras; a canon HD camera and a GoPro it allowed us to be professional and proactive about the way we filmed. We used the GoPro for the point of view shots due to the fact it is slim and accessible to be mounted to the head of the actor. The Canon was used purely for its professional look – it is much cleaner with reduction of noise but mainly the zoom and movement with the camera is much smoother. This overall ensured that the video’s standard is professional.
